Project Description:

Angul district is one of the poorest and backward districts of Odisha. This acute poverty often leads to many other socio-economic problems like poor health, high dropout among the children, high level of infant and maternal death, mal-nutrition among the women and children. Against this backdrop Voluntary Institute for Rural Development (VIRD) proposes to undertake an integrated project for the socio-economic development of the rural community in Angul district of Orissa. The NGO aims to encourage sustainable practices such as organic farming, crop rotation. crop diversification, mixed cropping, agro-forestry, animal husbandry and watershed management. Alternative sources of livlihood, income generation, community level decision-making, socio-economic empowerment and skill development will be their strategies.
